Major
review of genetics of Cape Verde Is cones “Phylogenetic
relationships of cone snails endemic to Cabo Verde
based on mitochondrial genomes” Samuel Abalde, Manuel J. Tenorio, Carlos
M. L. Afonso, Juan E. Uribe,
Ana M. Echeverry and Rafael Zardoya”.
Available on line at https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5702168/
The results indicate that genetically approx 50% of all species
studied have a DNA profile close enough to that of one of the other species to
suggest the need for synonyms to be created.

G. B. Sowerby II, 1858 accepted as Africonus crotchii (Reeve, 1849)

become junior synonyms of A. crotchii. Shells from Maio are C. maioensis; shells
from Boavista are either C crotchii
or C maioensis. This may require the nomination of a lectotype for C. irregularis to
finalise positions of different populations..
