C. bartschi is very similar to C. brunneus; the spire of the latter is sculptured with concentric incised grooves which are always and completely absent in the former. The animal of C. bartschi when alive brilliant vermillion dusted with very fine white specks while in C. brunneus it is dark purple with minute dark and light irregular spaced specks. C. bartschi has no spiral cords but only very numerous spiral threads along the spire whorls. C. brunneus has 3-6 well developed spiral cords that persist throughout growth.
